Turkish Delight

These motifs were inspired by the beautiful blue and white tiles that have decorated Turkish buildings for centuries. Its theme song? - Blue Rondo a la Turk.

Hanky Pysanky

This sampler was inspired by the Ukrainian art of pysanky, where beeswax is applied with a fine stylus and multiple layers of dyeing transform a simple egg into a work of art.

I Still Do

What better way to commemorate a milestone anniversary than with a lovely personalized sampler. Twenty years ago I said, �I Do.� In 2007, I was happy and lucky enough to be saying that I still did. A full alphabet and numeral set is included to help you customize this for your special tribute.

But because not everyone needs or wants a large anniversary sampler, I�ve reworked many of the motifs into a smaller all-occasion sampler. These motifs were given a �second chance� outside of their initial romantic setting. This sampler went through many naming iterations and was known for a long time just as that purple sampler. Because of its resemblance to oriental tiles, it flirted briefly with the French title: �Les Carrelages de l�Orient.� What ever you wish to call it, it looks fabulous done up in Carrie�s hand-dyed floss.

Stitch count for I Still Do is 300w x 380 h. It was worked in a collection of overdyed reds on 32 count Antique Ivory Belfast linen, two over two. A thread pack of thirteen colors of Carrie�s hand-dyed red threads is available, or you can choose a color scheme of your own. The chart does provide color placement.

Stitch count for Second Chances is a more modest 250w x 196h. This one showcases 11 of Carrie�s purple hand-dyed threads on 32 count Light Mocha Belfast linen, two over two.

Quaker Geometric Puzzle

Quaker samplers typically have some arrangement of motifs that provide a pleasing layout. This chart uses bits and pieces of Quaker motifs in a symmetrical arrangement called a mandala. I call it a Quaker puzzle, as the motifs interlock like a jigsaw.

It's charted for DMC, and shown stitched in a very autumnal palette on Attic Lace 32 count linen by Lakeside Linens. It would look very nice converted to silks or done in an alternate selection of colors.

Cirque des Cercles

Interlocking circles provide a pleasing geometric layout for these stylized floral mandalas. Nature abhors a vacuum, and so do I (I abhorred my Eureka, and am only barely able to tolerate our Hoover Wind-tunnel.) Thus, to avoid big empty spaces, the interstices between circles are filled with smaller circles and so on, and so on, resulting in quite a circus of circles (which just happens to sound cooler in French.)
