I started making this on Linen 32 Count, but my eyes said NO! and pointed out rather rudely that I am 20 years too late for such ambitions. So I put down the magnifying glass and switched to Aida 16 Count. It was very enjoyable to stitch. I also like that it looks quite fancy, but is achievable, taking me about 6 weeks to make. I did take some creative liberties with the pattern, some of which were intentional and a couple that were not :-)
