Published Friday, 5 December 20255 out of 5On the spur of the moment at a fibre exhibition, I bought two huge hanks of wool in this gorgeous aubergine colour. I mean, I love that colour so much even though it was labelled as grape. Anyway, the lady gives offers me a simple cardigan pattern, and I am lulled into this false sense of security... "yeah, you could do that... go on buy it" it whispers in my mind. So I bought them. Some of you might be thinking "oh yeah, so what!" but I am all about radical accountability when it comes to creative supplies. So I told myself there is NO WAY you are buying these unless you are going to make it. So that was an easy commitment to make... WHY you might ask? Because of THIS product. I have NEVER worked with a hank of wool before! God bless the vendor... who casually said "and you know how to unwind the hank..." More internal horror as I blurted "Nooooo... I have only ever worked with pre-wound balls of wool..." Then she babbled some vague instructions about how this string with this type of tie is the one to look out for because blah blah blah blah blah is all I remember next... So. I have two quite large hanks of wool. And I'm having this two way conversation in my head like "OK knit.." "Ahhhh you don't wanna start with those huge hanks..." "really?" "really." "oh... ok" Recalls conversation with good friend about memories of holding the hank in one's hands while their mother would manually wind said yarn into balls... Starting to feel quite nauseous at the prospect of needing to spend all that "art and creative time" on wool winding... I mean stab my eye out with a spoon! So I started googling "yarn ball winders". Lo and behold one of my favourite art supplies places The Ribbon Rose had a wonderful offering. After doing a modicum amount of research into the "yarn ball winding" ecosphere, I was SUPER HAPPY that I bought THIS ball winder. Even if I never buy another hank of yarn again, I appreciated the time I saved by using this sturdy reliable device. Thank you Ribbon Rose. Love you guys!

The vice also doesn’t damage the surfaces that I secure it to. I use it a lot and it’s a good product.. So far the best winder in my budget.
