About Sandnes Garn Alpakka Ull
Alpakka Ull brings together two natural fibres that complement each other particularly well. The high alpaca content gives the yarn softness, warmth and a comfortable feel, while wool adds resilience and helps the finished garment retain its shape.
The result sits nicely between the softness and warmth of a pure alpaca yarn and the structure of a traditional wool yarn. Sandnes Garn Alpakka Ull works beautifully for sweaters, cardigans, vests, hats, scarves, mittens and other warm garments and accessories.
A Flexible 10ply / Worsted Yarn
With a recommended tension of 19–22 stitches per 10cm, Alpakka Ull gives you useful flexibility in the fabric you create.
Knit towards the tighter end of the range for a firmer, more structured fabric, or towards the looser end when you want more drape and a softer feel.
The broad gauge makes Alpakka Ull suitable for a variety of knitting patterns, but always work to the tension specified by your chosen pattern and knit a swatch before starting your project.
Why Blend Alpaca with Wool?
Alpaca is wonderfully warm and soft, but it behaves differently from sheep's wool and doesn't have the same natural elasticity.
By blending 65% alpaca with 35% wool, Alpakka Ull brings together the advantages of both fibres. The alpaca provides softness and excellent insulation, while the wool contributes resilience and structure.
This balance is particularly useful for larger garments such as sweaters and cardigans, where you want the warmth and feel of alpaca with enough structure to create a well-shaped knitted fabric.
Care
Alpakka Ull is non-superwash but can be machine washed using a gentle wool programme at 30°C.
Wash knitted garments separately, spin well after washing, reshape and dry flat. Always follow the care instructions on the yarn label.
