Sandnes Garn Mini Alpakka - 100% Alpaca 4ply

Soft, warm and beautifully lightweight, Mini Alpakka is a fine 100% superfine alpaca yarn that's especially good for garments worn close to the body. Alpaca fibres are naturally hollow and breathable, providing excellent insulation without needing a heavy yarn. Sandnes Garn Mini Alpakka has a smooth, soft feel and works beautifully for fine sweaters, cardigans, colourwork and children's garments.

About Sandnes Garn Mini Alpakka

Mini Alpakka is made from 100% superfine alpaca, using fibres measuring approximately 25–26 microns. This is one of the softer grades of alpaca used for hand-knitting yarn and gives Mini Alpakka its comfortable feel.

Alpaca fibre is hollow, which helps make it an excellent insulator while remaining breathable. Sandnes Garn describes alpaca as around three times warmer than ordinary wool and Mini Alpakka as the most insulating yarn in its range.

The same superfine alpaca fibre is used in both Sandnes Garn Mini Alpakka and Alpakka, with Mini Alpakka being the finer of the two. Its 27-stitch tension makes it well suited to finer garments, detailed colourwork and patterns where you want warmth without a bulky fabric.

Alpaca fibre is naturally free from lanolin.

Care

Mini Alpakka can be machine washed at 30°C using a gentle wool programme. Wash knitted garments separately and avoid using a laundry bag, as additional friction can encourage felting. Spin well, reshape and dry flat, preferably on a towel.
