Soft and lofty without being heavy, Poppy is a great choice when you want the look and warmth of a thicker yarn with a lighter finished garment. Its unusual construction blows superfine alpaca and merino fibres into a cotton tube, giving Sandnes Garn Poppy plenty of volume, a soft halo and a light, comfortable feel.

About Sandnes Garn Poppy

Poppy isn't spun like a conventional wool yarn. Instead, the alpaca and merino fibres are blown into a knitted cotton tube. This construction uses less fibre to create volume, so you get a substantial-looking knitted fabric without the weight you might expect from a thicker yarn.

The superfine alpaca gives Poppy its warmth and characteristic soft halo, while merino wool adds warmth and the cotton tube provides structure. The result works particularly well for sweaters and cardigans where you want a cosy, slightly fluffy fabric that still feels light to wear.

Poppy is also a good option for vests, scarves, hats and other warm accessories. Depending on your pattern and needle size, the recommended tension ranges from 14–17 stitches per 10cm, so always knit a tension swatch before starting your project.
